Imagine a well in a remote Pakistani village that carries the name of someone you love. Every morning, mothers fill their pots from it. Children drink from it before school. Worshippers make wudu with its water before every prayer. And with each drop, a reward is written — for the person whose name is on the plaque, and for you, the donor.
Building a water well in your name, or dedicating one in memory of a loved one, is one of the most enduring gifts in Islam. This is the very definition of Sadaqah Jariyah — ongoing charity that keeps giving long after a single act is complete.
Build a Well in Your Own Name
When you build a well in your own name, a personalised plaque bearing your name is inscribed on the finished well. It becomes a living legacy — a continuous source of reward that flows to you for as long as the well provides water, by the permission of Allah. The Prophet ﷺ said: “The best charity is giving water to drink.” (Ahmad, Ibn Majah)
Dedicate a Well in Memory of a Loved One
For those who have lost a parent, spouse, or child, a dedicated well is a deeply meaningful way to keep their reward flowing. The reward of a Sadaqah Jariyah reaches the deceased, and every villager who benefits unknowingly becomes a source of continuous good deeds in their name. Many families tell us this brings them immense comfort — knowing that hundreds of people drink clean water, and make dua, because of someone they could no longer hold.

What You Receive
- A personalised name plaque — your name, or a loved one's, inscribed on the well at no extra cost.
- Photographs of the completed well and its plaque.
- The location of where your well was built.
- A completion report, usually within 20–45 days of your donation.
Build a Well for a Whole Village
Want a bigger impact? A deep water well or solar water system can serve an entire village of 100–500+ people. Dedicated in your family name, a single well can transform the daily life of a whole community — ending the long walk for contaminated water and protecting children from waterborne disease. A Note on Zakat
Many donors ask whether they can use Zakat to build a named well. Because wells are a public benefit, the majority of scholars say they should be funded through Sadaqah rather than Zakat. We explain this fully in our guide: Can You Use Zakat to Build a Water Well?
