For Eid ul Adha 2026 (27 May 2026), HBSMWA coordinated Qurbani distributions for Palestinian families in Gaza. Here is our full on-the-ground report — what we did, who received meat, and how the distribution worked.
Why Gaza Qurbani Matters More Than Ever
In normal years, Qurbani is a time of celebration — families gather, meat is shared, and the neighbourhood smells of cooking. In Gaza in 2026, hundreds of thousands of families are displaced, living in temporary shelters or crowded with relatives, with no income, no ability to purchase animals, and no way to observe Eid as they used to.
For these families, Qurbani distributed by an NGO is not just an Islamic observance — it is often the first substantial meal of protein they have had in weeks. Your donation does not just fulfil a religious obligation. It feeds children. It gives families a moment of normalcy on a day that should be about celebration.
How HBSMWA's Gaza Qurbani Worked
HBSMWA does not operate a physical office in Gaza. We work through vetted, trusted local partners who have established distribution networks and relationships with community leaders. Here is how the 2026 Qurbani process worked:
- Funds transferred before Eid: Donations collected through our Palestine Qurbani appeal were transferred to our local partner organisation in advance of 10 Dhul Hijjah.
- Animals purchased locally: Sourcing animals locally in Palestine means your money goes significantly further than if we imported meat. Local animals also ensure Shariah compliance can be supervised directly.
- Slaughter after Eid prayer: Animals were slaughtered after the Eid prayer on 27 May 2026, performed by trained slaughtermen who recited the tasmiyah for each sacrifice in the donor's name.
- Meat packaged and distributed same day: Meat was processed into family-sized portions and distributed to pre-verified families on 27–28 May. Distribution priority: orphan households, widows, and displaced families with children.
- Photo documentation: Our partner photographed distributions and shared images with HBSMWA. We shared these with donors.
Who Received the Meat
Our distribution prioritised the most vulnerable families — those with no male breadwinner, displaced families, households with young children, and elderly living alone. Beneficiary selection was based on lists maintained by local community leaders and religious figures who know their communities directly.
What Donors Said
“I donated Qurbani for Gaza through HBSMWA and within two days I received photos of the distribution. It was the most meaningful Eid donation I have ever made. Seeing those families receive meat — some of them crying — is something I will never forget.”
Give Qurbani for Gaza Next Year
The situation in Gaza has not resolved. Families who needed Qurbani this Eid will need it again next Eid, and they need food, medical care, and emergency aid every month in between. If you gave this year, thank you — your donation reached people who desperately needed it.
If you are reading this before next Eid, you can register your interest now. And in the meantime, our ongoing Gaza emergency appeal accepts donations for food packages and emergency aid year-round.
