When a companion asked the Prophet ﷺ whether giving charity would benefit his deceased mother, the Prophet ﷺ affirmed that it would (Sahih al-Bukhari; Sahih Muslim). Charity given on behalf of the deceased — known as Isaal-e-Sawab — reaches them as ongoing reward.
The Prophet ﷺ also taught that three deeds continue after death: ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah), beneficial knowledge, and a righteous child who prays for the person (Sahih Muslim 1631). A tree planted in someone's name touches the first of these directly.
