What is Qurbani?
The sacrifice of a halal animal on the day of Eid al-Adha to imitate the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) is known as Qurbani (Udhiya).

Farz or Wajib?
In Hanafi fiqh, Qurbani is Wajib. In other schools, it is a highly emphasized Sunnah (Muakkadah).

Animal for Qurbani (Eligibility Rules)
Goat / Sheep
1 Share. Minimum 1 year old.

Qurbani Rules for Family & Women
Husband and Wife
If both meet Nisab criteria, both must give Qurbani. If only one qualifies, only that person is obligated. It is not one per household, but per eligible individual.
Women's Obligation
Same ruling as men. Financial eligibility (surplus wealth meeting Nisab) determines the obligation.
A cow or camel can be shared among 7 people, each with a separate intention.
Correct Method of Qurbani
1. Sincere Intention
Make Niyyah for the sake of Allah.
2. Select Valid Animal
Choose healthy, eligible animals.
3. Timing
Perform after Eid prayer on the 10th, 11th, or 12th Dhul Hijjah.
4. Recite Takbeer
Recite “Bismillah Allahu Akbar” during sacrifice.
5. Humane Slaughter
Ensure the process is as painless as possible for the animal.

Cutting Hair and Nails
It is recommended (and mandatory in some schools) to avoid cutting hair or nails from the 1st of Dhul Hijjah until the sacrifice is performed. This Sunnah aligns the donor with the pilgrims in Hajj.

Can you give money instead of Qurbani?
Qurbani cannot be replaced with charity; the act of sacrifice is required. However, you can give a Qurbani donation to HBSMWA, and we will perform the sacrifice on your behalf.
Qurbani for deceased family members?
It is allowed and highly rewarding. The reward reaches the deceased loved one.
Is Qurbani wajib or sunnah?
Wajib in Hanafi fiqh; Sunnah Muakkadah in others.
